Installing EverEdge steel garden edging can significantly enhance your garden’s appearance and functionality. However, avoiding installation mistakes is crucial to ensure longevity and effectiveness of the edging. Here are some rare mistakes and how to rectify them:
1. Incorrect Depth Installation
Selecting the appropriate depth is very important (if you’re unsure please get in contact with us and we can help you with this decision). For instance, we recommend EverEdge in the 100mm, 125mm or 150mm depths for lawns and flower beds (wherever there is grass involved in your garden!) to control grass runners effectively and ensure mulch and soil is kept in place. These depths also allow for approximately 30mm of the edging and spikes to be buried, forming an underground barrier that can stop at least 80% of grass runners.
2. Improper Ground Preparation
Failing to prepare the ground adequately can lead to uneven installation of EverEdge. It’s necessary to remove any obstructions and loosen stony soil with a pickaxe (or similar) before installation. This preparation ensures that the edging sits level with the turf, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
3. Incorrect Joining of Edging Sections
EverEdge products in the 75mm,100mm and 125mm depths feature an interlocking tabbed joining system. It’s essential to ensure that the male section locks into the female section, not the reverse. Additionally, when overlapping sections (if required), it’s recommended to drill and bolt them to secure the connection tightly.
4. Neglecting to Address Surplus Lengths
When dealing with surplus lengths, it’s advisable to bend the extra length along the end of your project (ie. a fence or path). If a tighter fit is desired, drilling and bolting the overlap can secure it. We do not recommend cutting EverEdge as it can compromise the galvanisation and cause damage to the product.
5. Not Following Manufacturer Instructions
Each EverEdge product comes with specific instructions suited to its material and shape. Skipping these details or assuming all garden edging installs the same way can lead to long-term problems like shifting or rusting. Installation guides and videos can be found below, or visit our FAQ page for more information.
By adhering to these guidelines and utilising the available resources, you can ensure a successful and durable installation of your steel garden edging. If you have any questions regarding EverEdge products or installation, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
